I absolutely adore the summer time! The warmth of the weather, the blue skies, gardens full of pretty flowers and of course deliciously fresh and colorful foods! Here are some fabulous suggestions for staying healthy and fit with fun summer drinks and recipes for your parties!

Sunshine is very important, our body produces vitamin D when exposed to sunlight! Get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors! Specially if you are planning a party!

Best summer ingredients for your drinks: MINT, GINGER, LIMES, LEMONS, PINEAPPLE, WATERMELON, COCONUT, ROSE WATER, PEACHES!

Make some flavored ice sticks or cubes! That way, when the ice melts it doesn’t water down your drink!

Get creative and use a lot of color!

Recipes Ideas:

Minty Rose: Muddle mint, 1- 2 pink rose petals and lime and pour into highball glass. Add rose water or chilled rosehip tea. Stir gently.

Health Benefits: Antibacterial, soothing, healing and antiseptic properties. Helps with mental fatigue, stress, depressive states and headaches and stimulates digestion.

Jazzy Tea: Brew some peach flavored green tea. In a large pitcher, squeeze the juice of some limes or lemons, add a splash of peach juice, pineapple ice cubes and a few slices of limes or lemons for color. Pour in the chilled tea.

Health Benefits: anti-oxidant, anti-carcinogenic, anti-biotic and detoxifying properties which help healing of oral ulcers, good for diabetes, reduce cholesterol, help digestion. It rejuvenates the skin, protects it from infections and reduces body odor due to large amounts of vitamin-C and Flavonoids.

A CIO is the magic glue that connects the CEO’s vision w the CFO’s budget, with the COO’s feasibility.

CIO’s have 1 of the most stressful jobs in an organization! Trying to keep everybody happy makes it very hard!

10 Tips for CIO’s :
1- Drink more water less coffee, this brings more Oxygen 2 ur brain
2- if it’s not in your control. don’t stress abt it. If it is, then DO smthg abt it! Too often, technical people are too passive as if waiting for a signal. Take charge, & get it done! U already have the reputation of being the “smart” one of the bunch, so take advantage of it & use it.
3- get in the habit of backing things up! Always! not next week but today! u never know what storm might come by & mess up ur network platform!
4-Teach your team to label all cable drops, phone lines, & keep e-maps of IP address assignments!
5-Enforce attention to detail, a small programing mistake can create mayor damage!
6-Take the marketing person out to lunch and learn how to make spreadsheets/charts & colorful visual aids. Color stimulates the mind and helps w memory
7- Make ur department fun. Techies should take breaks from computer screens. Create an eating area where u promote social interaction during lunch breaks & avoid letting them eat @ their desk. Remember that healthy nutritional habits improve business performance.
8- Establish one-on-one’s with each team-member. FInd out about their personal concerns, family, emotional stability, hobbies… this helps promote brand loyalty and gives u an insight on your most precious asset:ur employees mind!

A Better Humans Story; The fascinating Herb Kelleher and Southwest Airlines!

May 8, 2011

The world has seen many great leaders and visionaries come and go. I, on the other hand, have only met a few. You will hear about them, as I write about these amazing individuals on my blog. Nonetheless my friends, when it comes to solid determination, passion, charisma, dedication, responsibility and laughter only one of those names comes to mind…the inspiring Herb Kelleher!

[caption id="attachment_307" align="aligncenter" width="491" caption="Herb Kelleher and Erika Ramelli @ EFNT Spirit of Entrepreneurship Soiree"][/caption]

The former CEO of Southwest Airlines has the attitude of a Captain, the presence of a king and the heart of boy. I recently had the pleasure of attending the Spirit of Entrepreneurship soiree (organized by Entrepreneurs for North Texas www.efnt.org); where we shared an inspiring evening filled with laughter, mentally stimulating conversations and of course…some Wild Turkey!!!

One of the things I admire the most about Herb Kelleher is his ability to recognize very early on in his professional career that the most valuable asset of a corporation is its people!  When the work force is healthy, happy, focused and motivated amazing things can happen! Unfortunately, the narcissistic attitude of self-achievement developed by many in power is their biggest curse and will be their pitfall. The machines, procedures, computers and vehicles still have to be operated by the “Free-Will” of human minds and hearts. This powerful free will is the one that gets individuals out of bed and makes them go to work. It’s the same free will that makes water cooler conversations positive, marketing inspiring, employees motivated and that, my dear leader, can only be achieved if you value the very influential minds and heart of those that work with and for you.

Yes, many things can be created on a cocktail napkin, like Southwest Airlines, but only a few of those ideas will ever make it to Business Week, Forbes, PBS and the stock market! Be kind to your employees, remember their names, empower their individuality yet establish discipline towards a common goal. Never forget the human factor missing in the periodic table of elements! You will be surprised to find your face on a magazine thanks to your vision and a joyful team!

Namaste!

Shambhala Workshop; The Art of being Human

February 2, 2011

“The result of letting go is that you discover a bank of self-existing energy that is always available to you — beyond any circumstance. It actually comes from nowhere, but it is always there.”

— Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

This is an enthusiastic reminder from your friendly local Dallas, TX  Shambhala for our upcoming The Art of Being Human weekend program Feb. 12th and 13th

If you are looking to deepen your experience of both meditation and the Shambhala teachings, take the leap and join us for this program! The weekend will be directed by Shastri Larry Higgins, who is a longtime teacher and meditation practitioner from Austin. For complete information, and to register online, click http://www.dallas.shambhala.org/program_details.php?id=61372&cid=217

The Art of Being Human is the first of five weekend workshops collectively known as The Heart of Warriorship, a sequence that provides a strong foundation in mindfulness-awareness meditation practice, emphasizing the development of genuineness, confidence, humor, and dignity within the complexity of daily life. The weekend is recommended for both new and experienced meditators, as well as for those looking to enrich their existing spiritual path.

A reminder: for those of you who have already taken The Art of Being Human, I highly encourage you to take it again. In my own experience, one gets a little something different each time one experiences these weekend programs, and the teachings always have a slightly different “flavor” depending on the teacher. There is a discounted fee of $50 for participants who are retaking the program.

The Quantum Perception of a New Year

December 31, 2010

What is the meaning of a New Year?

A New Year has many meanings, many interpretations and representations, all relative to the perception of the observer! A New Year means opportunities, a white canvas, another chance, a break. A New Year is that check point on the road, the evaluation, the report card of the soul, a brainstorming session with your mind and yourself. When you think of a new year, you immediately feel like burring the ugly of the past while drawing hopes and dreams in your future.

It doesn’t matter who you are, were you come from or what you have! What really matters in life is who you want to be, where you truly want to go and most importantly, life is what you do with what you have. That is where the real checks and balances of an individual come into play! So keep it simple, respect, share, care, love and always do your best!

Not all New Years are calendar years, some are marked by the beginning of a chapter in your life due to a specific event, some are Tollbooths disguised as birthdays gently keeping track of time, and some others are plain moments of realization forcing us to redirect the course of our ship.

Change is a certainty and our ability to manage stress, depends on our skill to adapt to change. Therefore, embrace every opportunity to evaluate your actions and update the blueprint of your daily life. Every New Year, every birthday and every mayor event needs a little time to be processed and accepted or mourned. Life always passes us the Profit and Losses report.

So, enjoy your profits, cut your losses and believe in yourself!

The Healing Power of Energy

November 11, 2010

Finally, people across the globe are experiencing the wonderful results of a balanced body-mind partnership. The body is self-repairing! Therefore, with the right mental attitude and with specific practices, you can dramatically transform your life! The healing power that lies within us is a dormant giant waiting to be awakened! Our thoughts, food, habits and environment directly impact our health. Too often, our traditional medicine “breaks” or segments the body leaving aside important components such as the mind, emotions, climate and circumstances (among others). We need to shift our mindset and instead of being reactive to pain or illnesses… Let’s be proactive! Stress appears as the inability to positively cope with change; an overload of shifting conditions that directly impacts our life in many levels! It’s time you take control and learn how to use your internal resources to live the quality of life you desire.
Pranic Healing (Energy Healing) and Healing Meditations are proven and tested forms of natural medicine that have been passed on for centuries! Well that, until insurance companies decided to monopolize health and gained control over the vast majority of society.
Energy blockages occur way before the physical body gets affected. This is properly explained in the Quantum Theory. Energy is not continuous, but comes in small but discrete units that can be manipulated. Light waves act like particles and particles act like waves.

Learn how to use your own energy to heal yourself and those around you.

The Better Humans, LLC courses have compiled and blended worldwide teachings of scientific, medical, business, spiritual and psychology principles. Additionally, incorporating 7 types of meditation techniques, that walk you through simple steps in order to help you identify which technique works the best for each situation.
Feel empowered and take charge of your health NOW!
